The release of the GoPro HD HERO2 saw the announcement and pending release of the GoPro WiFi BacPac. Oddly this did not receive much attention, probably because it was announced when the feature backed HD HERO2 hit the shelves. Rightly so, the new HD HERO2 is an awesome leap forward in the sports action camera market and deserved all the hype it received.

The release of Contour’s, ContourGPS saw the first sports camera that had the ability to be configured by and stream to an external device. Even though this was via a Bluetooth, it was still a massive step forward. A wireless camera remote is nothing new either, the VIO range of cameras have had a wireless remote for years, but only with the ability of controlling the one camera.

The GoPro WiFi BacPac has bundled all these neat features into one and then, put them on steroids. Long range live streaming, control and configuration over WiFi, with the ability to access your GoPro Camera from smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. Not only that, the WiFi remote has the ability to control up to 50 GoPro Cameras.

Using the GoPro HERO port, the WiFi BacPac is compatible with both the GoPro HD HERO and the GoPro HD HERO2. With remote control functions available on the HD HERO and live streaming on the HD HERO2. Scheduled for release in March 2012 the WiFi BacPac will be worth the highly anticipated wait.
