Quite some time back the rumour mill began churning, then an official announcement was made regarding the genuine GoPro Dive Housing. Now it is OFFICIAL, GoPro have released their latest premium accessory.
The GoPro Underwater Dive Housing is HERE
The GoPro Dive Housing is an impressive looking unit, purpose built to rectify the underwater focus issue noticed by users utilizing the GoPro HD Wide Housing while diving and snorkelling. GoPro’s headline from their official Facebook product release post states “GoPro Dive Housing Now available! Get even sharper focus underwater.”
What will happen to all the GoPro aftermarket accessory manufacturers producing flat lenses. They will have known for quite some time that this accessory was in the pipeline. I can’t remember when GoPro officially announced the release, but there have been rumours floating around for roughly 5 to 6 months regarding the pending release of GoPro’s new housing. I doubt this will railroad their products out of the market. You would assume that the serious optic manufacturers like Aquapixs, will start producing filters and accessories for the official GoPro housing.
Specifications are scarce for this product. GoPro have only really confirmed its waterproof underwater rating as being 197 feet or 60 metres, identical to their standard housing. I haven’t seen anything official as yet regarding how it will affect the field of view. One would assume that it would be narrower than the 170° of the standard housing. That being said, I cannot wait to put my hands on one of these housings and put it through its paces.
Stay tuned for a product review, once we see stock arrive here in Australia.

What about underwater color filter (usually red) to offset the color distortion? Any ability to do this? Several 3rd party options (including the one I bought) do this.
I’m interested in seeing some test results, and am wondering about filters.
