When purchasing a new camera or any product for that matter, most people just throw out the packaging once they tear it open to get to the goodies inside. GoPro camera users are no exception to this generalisation. Inside the GoPro packaging is a free tripod mount that would find its way into many peoples trash can without a thought, yet this piece of flat black plastic can be quite handy for many GoPro video and photo angles.
So which piece of plastic am I talking about? In the GoPro packaging there is a flat piece of plastic used to attach the GoPro camera inside its clear display case using a quick release buckle. It is about 100mm or 4 inches square and makes a stable little tripod for your GoPro. Whether you want to mount your camera trackside, at the bottom of the pool or on any flat levelish surface, this subtle piece of packaging is perfect.
All you need to utilise this flat plastic tripod mount is a GoPro quick release buckle and a GoPro pivot arm. The pivot arm is optional, but it will give you 2 axes of angle adjustment for your mount. Both of these mounting components ship with any GoPro camera making this a quick, easy and free mount to put together for your camera.
If you are a GoPro owner and you have kept the packaging for warranty, or you are a prospective GoPro purchaser, make sure you put this handy little mount in your kit of camera mounts. Low to the ground video and photo angles are always great, so you never know when this mount may come in handy. We have utilised it for some awesome angles on the side of the race track, on the bottom of the fish tank and pool, on the dock while wakeboarding, even on the top of a ski biscuit floating in the middle of the river. The possibilities are endless and best of all, it’s FREE.

This is a great tip. I have used it with the clear plastic “top” of the packaging as well.
